Formed by the merger of the Western North Carolina advocate and the Raleigh Christian advocate (1873) and assumes the vol. numbering of the latter. The Raleigh Christian advocate (1899) reappeared as a separate publication Feb. 23, 1899-June 12, 1919, after which it was permanently absorbed into the North Carolina Christian advocate
